Relationship strain doesn’t always come from one dramatic event. More often, it builds gradually, through repeated miscommunication, unspoken frustration, emotional shutdown, or a pattern of conflict that keeps repeating no matter how the details change.
This page describes individual counseling focused on your own communication patterns, emotional responses, and role in your relationships. It is not couples or family therapy, and sessions are one-on-one with me.
I offer individualized, mental health counseling for adults in Plantation and Broward County in person, and throughout Florida by telehealth.
I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 10 years of experience helping adults manage relationship stress, communication difficulties, and chronic stress. My background gives me a practical, structured lens on the same challenges many adults are navigating in their relationships: recurring conflict, emotional shutdown, and difficulty communicating under pressure. Read more about my background and why clients choose to work with me.
My approach focuses on your own patterns: how you communicate under stress, what tends to trigger conflict or withdrawal, and what’s getting in the way of saying what you actually mean. I use cognitive behavioral (CBT) techniques to work through the thoughts and assumptions that drive reactive communication, alongside person-centered support to build the self-awareness that makes change possible.
For clients whose relationship strain is tied to broader stress or burnout, solution-focused strategies help identify small, concrete changes you can make and test between sessions, rather than trying to overhaul everything at once.
Early sessions focus on identifying the specific communication patterns causing strain in your relationships, whether that’s a partner, family member, friend, or colleague, and what tends to trigger them.
From there, we examine what’s driving the pattern, often assumptions, past experiences, or stress responses, and practice more direct, effective ways of communicating that you can actually use in the moment.
Between sessions, I may ask you to notice specific triggers or try a new communication approach in a real situation, so the work carries into your actual relationships instead of staying confined to the therapy room.
This individual counseling tends to be a good fit if you keep running into the same relationship or communication difficulty across different relationships or situations, and you want to understand and change your own part in the pattern. It’s not the only approach I use; depending on your goals, this work is often combined with CBT, person-centered, or solution-focused strategies.
A free consultation is the best place to start if you’re not sure whether this fits what you’re dealing with.
