Trauma and chronic stress aren’t only stored in your thoughts, they’re held in your body. Somatic and nervous-system-based work focuses on the physical patterns that talk therapy alone doesn’t always reach: a racing heart before a meeting that shouldn’t feel dangerous, shoulders that won’t unclench, or a shutdown response that kicks in the moment a conversation gets difficult. I use these techniques to help you recognize what your body is doing and build tools to regulate it.
I offer individualized, mental health counseling for adults in Plantation and Broward County in person, and throughout Florida by telehealth.
I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 10 years of experience, much of it spent around crisis response and high-stress environments where the physical toll of stress is impossible to ignore. My time as a Marine Corps Military Police Officer, and the years I’ve since spent training officers, clinicians, and corporate teams in crisis response and de-escalation, gave me a close, practical understanding of how the body responds to sustained pressure, hypervigilance, and threat. I bring that understanding directly into sessions, helping clients connect what they’re feeling physically to what’s happening underneath it. Read more about my background and why clients choose to work with me.
These techniques are especially useful for clients carrying hypervigilance, a shutdown or numbing response, chronic muscle tension, sleep disruption, or a nervous system that seems stuck in fight-or-flight even when nothing dangerous is happening.
I draw on this work with veterans, first responders, and professionals from high-pressure fields, as well as anyone whose anxiety or trauma responses show up more in their body than in a clear, nameable thought.
We start by building your awareness of what’s happening physically, tension, breath, posture, energy, so you can catch a stress response earlier instead of only noticing it once it has already taken over.
From there, I introduce regulation techniques you can use in the moment, along with practices that help widen your capacity to tolerate discomfort without becoming overwhelmed by it.
Between sessions, I may ask you to notice specific physical patterns as they come up in daily life, so the awareness we build together becomes automatic over time.
Clients I work with often notice they can recognize a stress response earlier and interrupt it before it spirals, along with an improved ability to relax, sleep, and stay present in conversations that used to trigger a shutdown or defensive reaction. For clients whose trauma or chronic stress shows up more physically than verbally, this approach often creates relief that talk therapy alone hasn’t reached.
This approach tends to be a strong fit if you notice your stress or trauma responses show up physically, through tension, exhaustion, a racing heart, or a shutdown you can’t quite explain, even when you can’t always put the underlying feeling into words. A free consultation is the best place to start if you’re unsure whether this is the right entry point for what you’re carrying.
Is somatic therapy the same as physical therapy? No. Somatic and nervous-system-based counseling is a form of talk therapy that incorporates awareness of physical sensations and nervous-system regulation. It does not involve hands-on bodywork or physical treatment.
Do I need a trauma diagnosis for this to help? No. Many adults benefit from this approach simply because their stress or anxiety shows up physically, regardless of whether they have a formal diagnosis.
Can this be combined with other approaches? Yes. I frequently combine somatic and nervous-system-based techniques with trauma-focused therapy, cognitive processing therapy, or mindfulness-based strategies.
Is this available by telehealth? Yes. Telehealth counseling is available throughout Florida, in addition to in-person sessions in Plantation and Broward County.
I provide in-person counseling in Plantation, Florida, and serve adults throughout Broward County, including Fort Lauderdale, Davie, Sunrise, Coral Springs, Tamarac, and nearby South Florida communities. Telehealth counseling is available throughout Florida.
