Grief does not move in a straight line, and it does not always follow the timeline other people expect of you. Whether you’re grieving the death of someone close to you, the end of a relationship, or a loss that is harder to name, like your health, a role, or a version of the future you expected, grief can affect your sleep, focus, relationships, and sense of who you are.
I offer individualized, mental health counseling for adults in Plantation and Broward County in person, and throughout Florida by telehealth.
I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 10 years of experience helping adults manage grief, trauma, and chronic stress. My background gives me a practical, structured lens on the same challenges many adults navigating grief and loss are facing: sudden or traumatic loss, complicated grief, and difficulty moving through the grieving process on their own timeline. Grief counseling with me starts with making space for what you’re actually experiencing, without rushing you toward resolution. I draw on person-centered counseling as the foundation, so you have room to grieve in the way that fits you, alongside trauma-focused and optionally somatic techniques when the loss was sudden or traumatic and is showing up in your body as much as your thoughts.
Where it’s useful, I also bring in acceptance and commitment (ACT) work, helping you find ways to carry the loss forward while still reconnecting with what matters to you, instead of either suppressing the grief or being consumed by it.
Early sessions focus on understanding your loss, what it means to you specifically, and what kind of support would actually be useful, since grief looks different for everyone.
From there, we work at your pace, making room for difficult emotions as they come up, examining any guilt or unfinished business connected to the loss, and finding ways to honor what was lost while still building a life around it.
Between sessions, I may suggest small, practical steps, like noticing what helps and what doesn’t on particularly hard days, so the work stays connected to your actual daily life rather than staying confined to the therapy room.
Grief counseling can help whether your loss happened recently or years ago, and whether it was sudden or expected. It’s not the only approach I use; depending on your goals and history, grief work may be combined with trauma-focused, somatic, or acceptance and commitment techniques.
A free consultation is the best place to start if you’re not sure whether what you’re experiencing is grief, depression, or both.
No. Grief affects everyone differently, and there is no fixed schedule for when it should resolve. Counseling can help you understand your own process instead of measuring it against an outside standard.
Grief that stays intensely disruptive well beyond what feels workable, sometimes called complicated or prolonged grief, is something counseling can specifically help with.
No. Many adults come to grief counseling simply because they’re struggling with a loss, without needing a formal diagnosis first.
