Divorce Coach & Counseling Near You in Plantation, Florida

Divorce touches almost every part of life at once: your home, your finances, your parenting, your identity, and the future you had pictured. Even when the decision is the right one, it can leave you exhausted, anxious, angry, grieving, or unsure of what comes next.

I work with adults at every stage, from deciding whether to divorce, through the legal and practical decisions along the way, to rebuilding afterward. This page describes individual relationship counseling and coaching. It is not couples counseling or mediation, and sessions are one-on-one with me, focused on helping you stay steady, make clear decisions, and move forward on your own terms.

I offer individual divorce counseling for adults in Plantation and Broward County in person, and throughout Florida by telehealth.

Why Choose Us

Divorce Coaching and Counseling With a Steady, Practical Approach

I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 10 years of experience helping adults through high-stress transitions, and I offer two kinds of support for divorce. Divorce counseling addresses the emotional side, including anxiety, depression, grief, anger, and trauma responses that can surface during a separation. Divorce coaching is practical and forward-focused: organizing decisions, preparing for difficult conversations, and building a plan for life after divorce. Many clients use a combination of both. Read more about why clients choose to work with me.

My background in crisis response and de-escalation is especially useful when a divorce turns contentious. I’ve trained more than 1,000 clinicians, corporate teams, and police officers to stay calm and communicate clearly under pressure, and I teach clients those same skills for tense exchanges with a former spouse. I’m also certified in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which helps you make room for painful emotions while still acting on what matters most, including your children, your health, and your next chapter.

I’m not an attorney or financial advisor, and I don’t give legal or financial advice. I work alongside the professionals handling those parts of your divorce, so you have support for the emotional and practical load they don’t cover.

What Divorce Counseling Looks Like in Session

Early sessions focus on where you are in the process and what feels most urgent, whether that’s managing overwhelming emotions, preparing for a difficult conversation, or making a decision you’ve been putting off. We set clear, realistic goals for the weeks ahead.

From there, sessions combine emotional processing with practical planning. We might work through the thoughts that keep you stuck in guilt or blame, practice a calm approach to a co-parenting exchange, or map out the decisions in front of you and what’s driving them. When stress spikes, I use mindfulness and nervous-system-based techniques to help you get grounded before tackling the next step.

Between sessions, I may ask you to try small, concrete steps, such as holding a boundary with your former spouse or building a new routine for the weeks you don’t have the kids, so progress carries into daily life.

Benefits of Divorce Counseling and Coaching

Clients I work with often notice:

  • More emotional steadiness during a high-stress process
  • Clearer, less reactive decisions about next steps
  • Practical tools for communicating with a former spouse
  • Support for healthier, calmer co-parenting
  • A realistic plan for rebuilding life after divorce
  • Skills that continue to be useful long after counseling ends

Is Divorce Counseling Right for You?

Divorce counseling and coaching tend to be a good fit if you’re considering divorce, in the middle of one, or still struggling to move forward afterward. You don’t need a diagnosis to start, and you don’t need to have every decision made. Depending on your goals, this work is often combined with grief counseling, anxiety counseling, or support for major life transitions.

Private-pay sessions are $160, and I accept Aetna, Cigna, Florida Blue, TRICARE, Curative, and UnitedHealthcare for divorce counseling. Divorce coaching is private-pay. A free consultation is the best place to start if you’re not sure which kind of support fits where you are right now.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is a Divorce Coach, and What Does a Divorce Coach Do?

A divorce coach helps you manage the practical and emotional demands of divorce and post-divorce recovery: organizing decisions, preparing for conversations with your former spouse or attorney, setting goals, and staying focused when emotions run high. Divorce coaches don’t provide legal or financial advice, and the role is different from a divorce consultant, who may focus on the financial or procedural side. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I can also treat the anxiety, depression, or trauma that often comes with divorce, which coaching alone isn’t designed to address.

Is a Certified Divorce Coach Different From a Divorce Counselor?

Yes. Divorce coach certifications are offered through private training programs, and coaching generally isn’t a state-licensed profession. A divorce counselor or divorce therapist is a licensed mental health professional who can also treat conditions like anxiety and depression. I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, not a certified divorce coach, and I offer both counseling and a practical, coaching-style format depending on what you need.

Can You Help With a High-Conflict Divorce?

Yes. This is an area where my de-escalation training is especially useful. As a high-conflict divorce coach and counselor, I help you respond instead of react: keeping messages brief, factual, and calm, setting boundaries that protect your time and your children, and staying steady when a former spouse tries to reopen old arguments. If there is abuse or you feel unsafe, call 911 or the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 first, and we can build a safety-focused plan together.

What If I Haven’t Decided Whether to Divorce?

Many people come in still unsure. Some search for discernment therapy near you when one spouse is leaning toward divorce and the other wants to keep trying. Formal Discernment Counseling involves both spouses, which I don’t offer, but individual sessions can help you get clear about whether to keep working on the marriage, take more time, or move toward divorce, without pressure in either direction. If you decide to keep working on the marriage, individual marriage counseling is a natural next step.

Do You Offer Family Divorce Counseling?

My work is individual counseling for adults, so I don’t provide family sessions or counseling directly to young children. What I do offer is support for you as a parent: how to talk to your kids about divorce, keep them out of adult conflict, and build a co-parenting routine that gives them stability. If your child would benefit from their own counselor, I’m glad to help you find a referral.

What Questions Should I Ask a Divorce Coach or Therapist?

Good divorce coaching questions include: Are you licensed, and in what? Do you work with people at my stage of divorce? How do you help with conflict with a former spouse? Is this covered by insurance? What does a typical session look like? If you’re comparing divorce counselors near you, divorce therapists, or a divorce therapist near you in Broward County, I’m happy to answer all of these during a free consultation. Divorce counseling near you and divorce coaching near you are both available in person in Plantation or by telehealth.

Is Divorce Counseling Available by Telehealth?

Yes. Telehealth divorce counseling and coaching are available to adults anywhere in Florida over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, in addition to in-person sessions in Plantation and Broward County.
